高1の時のエッセイですが今でも主張が変わっていないということはそれだけ世界も変わっていないってことなんでしょうか…

It was when we were so young that the Cold War had ceased with U.S.-Soviet Summit at Malta. Most people deemed it to be the beginning of a peaceful last decade of the 20th century. But their hope was betrayed. Collapse of communism uncovered “fault-lines” between civilizations and races. It urged them to return to their original land which they had before WWⅠ. In this process, each of them comes into conflict with each other. Then they donʼt stop fighting until either of them is wiped off completely. And former imperialism countries, which sowed the seeds, use this tide to pursue the interest of their own. Terrorists are acting worldwide by their religious dogmas for their cause. And against this background, one country which rapidly gained power in the last a few hundred years refers to itself as the “World Police” and interferes in internal or foreign affairs of other countries that are none of its business. Yes. That country is trying to turn the whole world round his finger and make excessive self profits. We are living in dark and difficult times. However this does not mean that there are no bright spots of light. The changing of viewpoints may lead us to an arrival of a better world. When we talk of world issues, we tend to refer to groups of people, such as ʻracesʼ, ʻcivilizationsʼ, or ʻcountriesʼ rather than individuals. Thinking of the world as constructs of races or countries certainly helps us to form an image of it. But is this way of thinking always good? Let us think about our emotion toward a communist country on the Korean Peninsula. What aspect of that country do we dislike? Actually, itʼs not a country, but a leader or political system itself that we dislike. So we have no bad feelings to people living in that country. And maybe that is also cause with that countryʼs people. So any time we have a chance, we can build good relationships with them at an individual level. And this also can apply well in between Iraqi and American. A few weeks ago, I read an article about Iraqi emotion. They say that they have no bad feelings to Americans, and they like Americansʼ culture. “Normal” Americans say the same kind of thing too. So any time they have a chance, they can build good relation ships with each other at an individual level. How wonderful it is! Japanese and North Korean, American and Iraqi will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood. And I firmly believe that the idea of taking human relations as a bone structure of this world will be a decisive element in a future society. So, let us say that “the world” means relationships between one person and another. Let us say that this world is constructed not by countries or races, but 6 billion people. It is like a giant covalent molecule of diamond. These relationships are very tight on each. So donʼt you think the best way to make a better world is to review our own relationships with each other?
Let us recognize the good in friends and have respect for it. Let us recognize the presence of minorities and listen to their voices. Such things can be carried out by individuals. Itʼs much easier than to act toward groups. So let us DO it from this moment of time. I believe it strongly that these ideas will make our world a better place to live in beyond the wall of societies, races, countries and civilizations. Iʼm writing this paper in the midnight of March 20th. Sadly the war has already started. Washington, London, Madrid and Tokyo had lost their minds. When warfare has been triggered by the government, it is extremely difficult to turn it back even by the strongest power in this world ‒people power‒. But we shouldnʼt give up our action of creating good human relation because the journey to the true justice and peace is just like a road on the ground. There is no road in the first place. But when many people start walking toward this great human cause, their tracks become a wide and big road.
